ABSTRACTThis report concerns the case of a 19-year-old student who developed a loud systolic murmur over the precordium and signs of venous inflow obstruction following a bland chest trauma. The diagnosis of a traumatic VSD was confirmed by right- and transseptal left heart catheterization. The patient was operated upon 6 h after the accident with the aid of a cardiopulmonary By-pass. The defect was 1.5 cm in diameter and was located within the membranous part of the septum. Postoperatively the patient developed acute renal failure, which was most probably related to the state of shock which had been present before the operation. He died 11 days after surgery.
