ABSTRACTContinuous infusion of 6 mg somatostatin for 24 h leads to a reduction of pancreatic secretion and perfusion of the splanchnic area. Due to this mechanism in the case of pancreatic or small intestine fistula secretion is significantly reduced. In 39 patients somatostatin was administered continuously for 7 days.
