ABSTRACT

Fifty aterial reconstructions performed since 1961 for aneurysm in the popliteal region are discussed. In 30 patients acute ischemia of the leg was found. Prophylactic surgery is therefore indicated in asymptomatic forms of aneurysm. The authors prefer to construct a venous bypass from the femoral to the popliteal artery, leaving the aneurysmin situ. The advantages of this operation technique are evident: operating time is short, tendons do not need to be cut off in the popliteal region, and injury of the popliteal vein can be prevented. Of 50 patients who were followed up, early results were good in 42. The operative mortality was 6 percent. More... »
