ABSTRACT

The paper deals with the problem of linear stability of longitudinal plane waves in a partially ionized plasma. The investigation is carried out, both analytically and numerically, by adding a short range collision term to the Vlasov equation. It is shown that electrically unstable plasmas are stabilized if the collision frequency for binary encounters is large enough. An illustrative example is discussed in detail. More... »
