ABSTRACT

ConclusionsOn the example of the hydrogenation ofΒ-ionone we verified the general character of the rule, according to which modification with Pb, Cd, or ZnO changes the selectivity of the action of catalysts that belong to the Group VIII metals, and the hydrogen adds selectively to the C = C bond that is conjugated with the carbonyl group of the 3,5-dien-2-one. The exo character of the C = C bond in the 5,6 position is responsible for the high selectivity of the process.The method of mathematical planning of the experiment was used to find the optimum conditions for the hydrogenation ofΒ-ionone to dihydro-Β-ionone on skeletal Ni, modified with lead, in 93–94% yield.
