ABSTRACTConclusionsThe kinetic parameters of the isomerization of 1,3-dioxolane in CH2C12 under the action of Et3O+SbF6− were determined. The maximum rate of polymerization within a broad range does not depend on the catalyst concentration. A mechanism was proposed for the reaction, in which as a result of slow initiation and effective destruction (decomposition to molecular forms) a constant equilibrium concentration of the active centers is established. The induction period is determined by the water content in the system; in this case water has no influence on the maximum rate of the reaction. The inhibiting action of water was interpreted as the result of the interaction of water with the acetal active centers formed during slow initiation and their conversion to relatively inactive secondary oxonium ions.
