ABSTRACTThe hydrolytic polymerization of ε -caprolactam in the presence of water containing the heavy isotope of oxygen O18 has been studied.Hydrolytic polymerization of ε -caprolactam proceeds by the addition of the monomer to the end groups of the growing chain. In the last stage of the hydrolytic polymerization process, if conditions for the removal of water are assured, polycondensation of the macromolecules through the end amino and carboxy groups occurs.
