ABSTRACT

ConclusionsA tendency toward crystallization has been observed for polyarylates based on phenolanthrone, which is not characteristic of polyarylates with bulky lateral rings of the type of the phthalide, phthalimidine, or fluorene rings. The tendency toward crystallization is most strongly expressed by the polyarylate from terephthalic acid. This polymer can be obtained either with a predominantly crystalline or a predominantly amorphous structure, and also in the form of a mixture of both forms, either by changing the conditions of conducting the polycondensation or by subsequent reprecipitation of the crystalline polymer, or also by thermal treatment of the amorphous polymer in the presence of solvent.Crystallization of polyarylates based on phenolanthrone permits one to increase their heat stability at low stresses.
