ABSTRACTConclusionsThe following were identified with the help of paper, thin-layer, and gas-liquid partition chromatography in a hydrolyzate of methylated blood group substances (BGS) (A+N): 2,3,4-tri-O-methylfucose, 2,3,4,6-tetra-, 2,3,6-tri-, 2,4,6-tri-, and 2,3,4-tri-O-methylgalactose.Fucose and a certain fraction of the galactose are terminal monosaccharides of BGS (A + N), and galactose enters into the constitution of the carbohydrate chains with 1–3, 1–4, and 1–6 linkages. The presence of galactose with a 1–4 linkage was also confirmed by the identification of threitol in the products of degradation of BGS (A + N) by Smith's method. More... »
