ABSTRACTConclusionsThe blood group substance B (BGS B) was isolated from the stomach mucosa of the horse and it was shown that the general principle for the construction of the BGS B molecule is similar to that assumed for other BGS.The carbohydrate chain of BGS B contains a section that is composed of 1→3 linked N-acetylhexo-samine residues, chiefly N-acetylgalactosamine residues, a portion of which has branching. The periodate oxidation of BGS B proceeds at the ends without splitting out the mono- or oligo-saccharide fragments.
