ABSTRACT

The mechanism for abrasive wear of the surfaces of Fe-Mn-C alloys containing small admixtures of certain elements is analyzed. Experimental data and an analysis of the elementary events involved in the interaction of an abrasive particle with the metal surface reveal the roles played by dispersed particles in increasing the resistance of a material to abrasive wear. The changes in the resistance to abrasive wear are explained by the different yield points of metals and alloys. More... »
