ABSTRACT

The insulin-dependent regulator (IDR) was shown to inhibit oxidation of pyruvate and succinate in rat liver mitochondria. Since insulin increases but adrenalin reduces IDR activity in the liver cytoplasm, it is suggested that a change in the concentration of IDR in the cytoplasm is one mechanism of regulation of substrate oxidation in mitochondria in vivo. Activation of oxidation by adrenalin was shown to be inducible not only by an increase in IDR activity in the cytoplasm, but also by another mechanism independent of the IDR concentration. More... »
