ABSTRACT

Data were obtained showing that lubricated friction between alloys containing carbide-forming elements may lead to the formation of etch-resistant surface carbide layers. Metallographie and X-ray diffraction analyses established that the necessary condition for the formation of surface layers of this kind is local seizing of the rubbing metal surfaces. The formation of these layers leads to intense wear of at least one of the friction pair components. More... »
