ABSTRACT

Angiographic recognition of cerebral metastases depends on the presence of multiple focal space-occupying processes or areas of pathological circulation which are most clearly visible in the capillary phase. Functional evaluation of the pathological vessels in relation to circulation time enhances the possibilities of differential diagnosis between meningioma, glioma, haemangioma and metastases. — Additional pathological changes in the vessels themselves, e.g. occlusion of the internal carotid artery, may further complicate the diagnosis. In the patient described in this report, correlation of the clinical findings with serial contrast studies resulted in the demonstration of an occipital metastasis by angiographic means, in the presence of occlusion of the ipsilateral internal carotid artery.
