ABSTRACT

Ultraviolet photolysis of aqueous nitrite solutions in contact with a paraffin hydrocarbon causes a reduction of nitrite, by abstracted hydrogen atoms, to occur. This is evidenced by the formation of ammonium whose concentration is found to follow a simple, overall, kinetic pattern.
