ABSTRACT

24 proteins of the small subunit of rat liver ribosomes were isolated by detachment of ribosomal proteins from the subunits bound to DEAE-Sephadex A-25 by LiCl and β-chlorethanol-HCl and subsequent ion exchange chromatography and gel filtration of the prefractionated protein mixtures.The amino acid compositions of the isolated proteins are fairly similar, but most of them are different from each other.The tryptic peptide patterns of the isolated proteins point to differences in the primary structure.The molecular weights estimated by different methods are in the range from 9700 to 30 600.
