ABSTRACT

The deposition of Hg emitted into the atmosphere by a power plant and an incinerator has been calculated. Separate results are presented for wet and dry scavenging processes acting on both the adsorbed and vapor phases. Some localized deposition occurs, leading to a slow increase in the Hg levels of soil and surface runoff, but most of the emission remains airborne for relatively long distances, typically tens of kilometers.
