ABSTRACT

Conversion of a system of free pairing between four homologous chromosomes of an autotetraploid to the restricted two by two pairing of an allopolyploid requires differentiation of orginally homologous chromosomes. Structural rearrangements can induce partial differentiation, as can naturally occurring differences in the attraction system itself. Combination of the two was found to be very effective, but it is extremely difficult to combine the correct rearrangements with the correct attraction differences in alle chromosomes simultaneously.
