ABSTRACT

The research work mainly focuse on grid isolated operation suitable for low wind speed areas for micro-generation purpose and to meet the requirements of local household and critical loads. A hybrid generation system is designed where electricity is generated by wind turbine coupled Induction Generator (IG) in conjunction with a solar-PhotoVoltaic (PV) panel. The generation system designed in this work is capable of harnessing power for wide ranges of wind speeds. The system uses a three-phase inverter which provides the necessary reactive power support to the IG in addition to the fixed capacitors. The three-phase inverter is capable to fault-tolerant operation which enables more reliability on the generation. A suitable storage battery is used which stores the excess energy during low loading or high generation conditions. The main strategy is to mount the solar system in the same tower of the wind turbine so that the space requirement is minimal. The results of proposed system show better quantitative performance.
