ABSTRACT

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is an important procedure for treatment of biliary and pancreatic diseases. In patients with normal anatomy, a conventional duodenoscope is used for all therapeutic ERCP procedures with a success rate that exceeds 95% [1, 2]. However, performing ERCP in patients with surgically altered anatomy remains a major challenge to endoscopists [3]. Although this is a known problem since the early 1970s, the interest to use ERCP for biliopancreatic disorders in patients with surgically altered anatomy has increased because of the global rise in bariatric surgery and the development of new endoscopes.
