ABSTRACT

The basic design of the microwave scatterometer (SCAT) planned in Japan is presented. The scheme has been encouraged by the success of Seasat-A satellite scatterometer (SASS). While SCAT is basically fan beam system like SASS, characterized by 3 directional beams and an observation cell composed of multiple unit cells. As a result of the system design, it is clear that SCAT would be able to measure sea-surface wind vector with high accuracy. Furthermore, it can be expected SCAT has flexibility in measurement corresponding to various field conditions. More... »
