ABSTRACT

Minerotrophic and ombrotrophic peatlands are widespread all over the boreal regions and represent one of the most characteristic features of glacial landscapes both in North America and in northern Eurasia (Moore & Bellamy, 1974). Peatlands develop in sites where organic deposition exceeds decomposition. Peat accumulates in wet depressions by the filling-in process, and on slopes of particularly humid regions by the building-up process (Tarnocai, 1978). More... »
