ABSTRACT

We report on our research activity towards the realization of an AlGaAs-based integrated optical parametric oscillator, in a configuration exploiting form birefringence for phase-matching. We emphasize the role of a careful characterization in achieving parametric fluorescence and oscillation. In particular, we present the results of two complementary optical techniques, providing a more accurate estimate of refractive indices than extrapolated from existing models: grating-assisted effective index evaluation, and modal birefringence measurement through surface emitted second harmonic generation.
