ABSTRACT

The characteristics of our Monte Carlo code used to compute synthetic photospheric epoch SN spectra are briefly reviewed. The code’s diagnostic potentials are discussed, with particular reference to the possibility of determining parameters such as luminosity, distance and reddening of a SN, the epoch of a given spectrum and the abundances in the ejecta. Two examples of the application of the code to the spectra of one ‘normal’ SN Ia, SN 1994D, and one `peculiar’ SN Ia, SN 1991bg, are briefly discussed. More... »
