ABSTRACT

The planet Earth has an evolutionary history of about 4,700 million years and perhaps a history of 3,700 million years for life on Earth. During these periods of time the physico-chemical surface conditions must have changed considerably and in some cases this is documented through rock records or by other means of extrapolation. Whether or not abiogenesis or other means for the establishment of life occurred is not yet clear. It is, however, believed, that abiogenesis, i. e. the beginning, formation, and evolution of life does not take place on Earth as it is at present. Nor is it clear whether it ever occurred (and whether it generates itself through the elimination of other abiogenetical experiments). There seems to be agreement that life on Earth is monophyletic with strong tendencies of symbiotic and other recombinations of one and the same principle or basic form of life.
