ABSTRACT

The emergence of twisted magnetic flux tubes in the Solar atmosphere is studied by three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations. The initial state is a plane parallel, hydrostatic atmosphere with convectively unstable layer, isothermal cool photosphere/chromosphere and hot corona. A horizontal, twisted flux tube with Gold-Hoyle magnetic field distribution is imbedded in the convection zone. Small amplitude perturbation is imposed on the initial state. Typical number of grid points used in the simulations is 125 × 125 × 208. More... »
