ABSTRACT

Photosystem II (PSII) catalyses the photoinduced reduction of plastoquinone with electrons from water (1,2). The reaction center of PSII is comprised of two central proteins D1 and D2 that bind most of the redox components, including the water oxidizing “triad” composed of the primary donor P680, the intermediate donor Tyrosine-Z (Tyr-Z) and the Mn-cluster. Tyr-Z is identified as Tyr-161 on the D1 protein while the binding of the Mn-cluster involves many sidechains on in particularly the D1 protein (2–5). More... »
