ABSTRACT

Bimetallic Clusters obtained by simultaneously doping MgCl2 with Ti2+ and Mn2+ are used as examples to illustrate some of the principles of electronic excitation and energy transfer in such species. Laser spectroscopy is demonstrated to be a very powerful tool with high selectivity for these studies. Inelastic neutron scattering provides valuable complementary information. In Ti2+ doped MnCl2 and MnBr2 a Ti2+ (Mn2+)6 spin cluster with spin quantum numbers up to S=16 can be investigated. Very unusual magnetic relaxation effects determine the luminescence behaviour of these systems. More... »
