ABSTRACTAuxins elicit on plants a wide variety of responses such as elongation growth, vascular tissue differentiation, cell division, and selective transcription of genes (Klee and Estelle, 1991, and references therein). However, little is known about auxin action at the molecular level. Although considerable progress has been made during the recent years towards identifying auxin-binding proteins, only few indirect evidences could be provided for their functioning as hormone receptors (Jones, 1990; Napier and Venis, 1991). So, the question is still open as to whether all auxin responses of plant cells are mediated by a unique receptor or by independent specific receptors. More... »
