AUTHORS ABSTRACTEach green plant cell has at least three separate genetic systems. How these interact is a conspicuous genetic aspect of photosynthesis. Each of the genetic systems, is, furthermore, part of a potentially semi-independent metabolic system whose activity could affect the expression of genes in the other genomes. What are the potential mechanisms of integration among the chloroplasts, the mitochondria, and the nucleo-cytoplasm? Which of these mechanisms is used? We have been exploring some specific aspects of these general problems. More... »
