ABSTRACT

This paper examines a series of postulates concerning the pathogenesis of Reye’s syndrome (16). These hypotheses are derived from available clinical, pathologic and biochemical observations and are selected on the basis of their verifiability by clinical or experimental means. No claim is made for their ultimate correctness. Rather, the aim is to organize data in a manner which may serve to orient further inquiry into underlying mechanisms, and may reveal unsuspected relationships among metabolic processes involved in the clinico-pathological change described by Reye et al.
