ABSTRACT

This paper summarizes the motivation for observing distant comets: they can provide information about the dynamics, collisions, physical and chemical conditions in the early solar nebula. The challenges and techniques of observing faint moving objects at large distances and searching for activity will be discussed. Our state of knowledge about distant comet size distributions, evidence for activity and spectral diversity is presented. More... »
