ABSTRACT

Inspite of the rosy promises held out by solar photovoltaic power generation, the problems of high cost and inadequate life has been posing great handicaps to the realisation of the same [1]. This and the serious threat posed by the Energy Crisis have led people to search for new innovations in the composition and structure of solar cells. Quite a few of these are unconventional, holding promises of great advancement in solar cell performance, at least on theoretical basis. An intending worker in the field of solar cell development must be fully aware of the activities relating to these before shaping his own programme of work. In the present talk an attempt will be made to present a general picture of the field keeping in view cells using multiple junctions and phases of materials and without going into a comprehensive cataloguing of extensive literature published on the same. To begin with, it is necessary to understand the basic causes which lead to poor performances of conventional cells. More... »
