ABSTRACT

Because of the proved capability of predicting the response to endocrine therapy, biochemical assays of estrogen receptors have been used as an essential test in the management of patients with breast carcinomas although these tests require fresh tissue and elaborate equipment. In contrast, morphological methods have several fundamental methodological flaws and are considered unacceptable for clinical application although they have multiple potential advantages over the biochemical methods such as applicability to routine paraffin sections.
