ABSTRACT

The radiative forcing due to increased CO2 and some simple climate feedbacks are illustrated using results from one-dimensional model studies. The simulated response of climate to CO2 in three-dimensional models is described with emphasis on the physical mechanisms responsible. The role of the oceans, the simulation of the transient response and the problems of detecting CO2-induced climate change are discussed briefly, and priorities for future research are outlined.
