ABSTRACT

Electrofusion and electroporation techniques have been successfully applied to crop plants to produce somatic hybrids, e.g. potato (1), or stable, specific transformants, e.g. maize (2). Using the Zimmermann rectangular pulse electrofusion apparatus, analytical electrodes and a mass fusion chamber, sugar beet protoplasts have been electrofused and electroporated, and a range of parameters studied.
