ABSTRACT

During the past few years, there has been an increasing interest in the experience of pediatric patients who have been enrolled in the National CAPD Registry. The results of a preliminary assessment of data routinely collected by the National CAPD Registry were presented in the 1986 report [1]. That report contained data which suggested that pediatric patients did not do as well as the pediatric nephrologists who care for them had expected, e.g. age < 20 years at CAPD initiation was found to be associated with increased risk of developing peritonitis and with early first hospitalization (relative risks 1.2 and 1.6, respectively).
