ABSTRACT

Isolate R7, a gram negative nitrogen fixing rod isolated from a paddy field at Suweon, Korea, was grown in continuous culture at several dilution rates and several oxygen concentrations under nitrogen fixing conditions. Growth parameters µ max = 0.17h-1, Ks < 2 µmiol L-malate 1-1 and Ymax = 195 mg dry weight g-1 L-malate) and the oxygen tolerance were determined. Enzyme activities of glutamine synthetase, glutamate synthase (GOGAT), and glutamate dehydrogenase were measured for all steady states in continuous culture. The base composition is 66% G + C, but no definite identification could be obtained. More... »
