ABSTRACT

The chloroplast DNAs of higher plants contain several open reading frames (ORFs) of as yet unknown functions (1). In the plastid DNAs of tobacco, maize and the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha three genes are cotranscribed: ndhC-psbG-ORF159 (maize)/158 (tobacco)/159 (M. polymorpha). We have recently demonstrated, that in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC6803, the three genes occur in the same order and are cotranscribed as well (2). More... »
