ABSTRACTThe chloroplast DNAs of higher plants contain several open reading frames (ORFs) of as yet unknown functions (1). In the plastid DNAs of tobacco, maize and the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha three genes are cotranscribed: ndhC-psbG-ORF159 (maize)/158 (tobacco)/159 (M. polymorpha).
