ABSTRACT

Atherosclerosis is histologically characterized by intimal lesions (atheromas or atheroslcerotic plaques) of the vessel walls, with lumen stenosis and damage of the tunica media. Relevant anatomic features of arterial walls are reported in Fig. 4.1.
