ABSTRACT

Stuttering is a speech disorder characterized by a high frequency of disruption that obstructs the forward flow of speech. During the course of assessment, clinicians need to carefully measure client’s speech fluency in order to obtain frequency of dysfluencies that can be used to determine the severity of stuttering and planning appropriate training program. Frequency of stuttering is also helpful as a snapshot measure of improvement during treatment. The purpose of this study is to introduce lexically driven algorithm to recognize and categorize dysfluencies in orthographic transcriptions.
