ABSTRACT

Plant cells may be capable of stably supplying their secondary metabolites for commercial use when they are cultured on a large scale. Immobilization enables the re-use of plant cells which grow very slowly and which are sensitive to shear forces. In particular, adhesion of plant cells on reticulate polyurethane foam is one of the inexpensive and efficient methods for immobilization [1]. This method does not involve reagents and complicated operations which cause damage to cells and contamination with microbes. Moreover, foam particles could immobilize more cells than gel matrices.
