ABSTRACT

In cuprate superconductors, the superconductivity along the c axis is maintained by the Josephson coupling acting between the CuO2 layers. The Josephson current flowing along the c axis is coupled with the electromagnetic field, generating the Josephson plasma whose frequency appears in the range of 10 GHz and 1 Tera Hz. The frequency dispersions for the transverse and longitudinal plasma modes are calculated. The Josephson plasma strongly interacts with vortices and thus the plasma frequency varies depending on the vortex state. The interaction is so strong that the plasma can be excited by the vortex flow generated by an external electric current. Including the effect of the transverse plasma, we calculate the reflectivity and transmissivity of light for a film of cuprate superconductor. The reflectivity and transmissivity oscillate with respect to the light frequency due to the interference effect of the plasma waves reflected from both the film surfaces. More... »
