ABSTRACT

Grasses seem to have been largely employed by the Iceman as a raw material for manufacturing his equipment. In particular, the remains of neolithic snow footwear employing hay a insulating material, still dangled from the legs of the mummy at the moment of its recovery from the ice, during the first survey of the site (September 1991), and a sort of cloak (Grasmatte) made of woven tufts of grass was later found nearby (Lippert, 1992; Egg, 1992).
