ABSTRACT

The technique of exon-shuffling has been used to introduce the human DR4β1 domain into the murine IE β gene. The molecule produced from this hybrid gene has the ability to pair with the murine IE α gene product as shown by the surface expression of an α-β dimer on transfected P815HTR cells. Antibodies to the β chain of HLA-DR antigens have been tested against these transfectants and it has been found that TDR31.1, M1.6, M1.18, M2.27, M2.69 and M2.72 all bind to the transfected cells whereas CA2 and DA2 fail to bind.
