ABSTRACT

MOCAGE is a new flexible Chemistry and Transport Model with optional characteristics adapted to cover a broad spectrum of scientific applications, from climate-chemistry interactions studies to operational air quality forecasts at the regional scale. Particularly, it is possible to consider several levels of nested domains, in order to make high resolution simulations on locations of interest while computing the transport at the global scale simultaneously, eliminating the need for external boundary conditions. With the aim to use comprehensive chemical schemes involving typically more than one hundred tracers, a semi-lagrangian advection scheme has been chosen. In addition, parameterizations for turbulent and convective transport have been introduced. This paper presents a short account of some validation runs of transport at both resolved and sub-grid scales within MOCAGE : one idealized case study involving tracers, dedicated to test the semi-lagrangian scheme and the two-ways nesting procedure, and two more realistic applications at the global scale, one involving Radon-222 and the other Black Carbon aerosols. 17 schema:description MOCAGE is a new flexible Chemistry and Transport Model with optional characteristics adapted to cover a broad spectrum of scientific applications, from climate-chemistry interactions studies to operational air quality forecasts at the regional scale.
