ABSTRACT

It is well established that the kinins bradykinin and kallidin produce, as a rule, a fall of systemic arterial blood pressure in various species (Elliott et al., 1960; Konzett and Stürmer, 1960; Gersmeyer and Spitzbarth, 1961; Stürmer and Berde, 1962). Eledoisin also lowers the arterial blood pressure of many animals (Stürmer and Berde, 1963; Gersmeyer et al., 1965). With regard to the depressor action, bradykinin, kallidin, and eledoisin differ quantitatively; eledoisin has the strongest hypotensive action. Under certain experimental conditions, however, a rise in systemic blood pressure may occur after administration of these polypeptides; e.g. the chicken blood pressure, after an initial fall, is increased by eledoisin (Stürmer and Berde, 1963).
