ABSTRACT

In the literature, the reported changes in cerebral blood flow (CBF) in the ischemic tissue due to calcium (Ca) entry blocker have been diverse and inconclusive. The conflicting results appear to stem from several practical points, as follows. First, the ischemic models produced by investigators have been different: global ischemia due to cardiac arrest or aortic ligation [7, 10], or focal ischemia due to cerebral arterial occlusion [2, 5]. Second, the timing of the administration has been different: preloading [5] or postischemic loading in the acute phase [2, 7,10] or in the chronic phase of clinical cases [3, 14]. Third, the control flow per se to be compared with the flow affected by the Ca entry blocker has been variable because of difficulties in producing a constant level of cerebral ischemia.
