ABSTRACT

Singlet ground-state magnetism has attracted attention partly because of the interest in the nature of phasetransitions involving induced ordering and partly because such materials are of potential use for adiabatic cooling [1]. Similarly, there has been recent work on magnetic dimer states in molecular units and complexes. Initially these studies were motivated by the interest in the relations between the chemical environment and the magnetic interactions which becomes especially transparent in such systems[2]. However, as shown by the work presented here, the magnetic many-body aspects are equally exciting and lead to a new class of singlet ground-state compounds. More... »
