ABSTRACT

We present in this paper a pel-by-pel motion estimation which must be fitted any type of scene or motion in a sequence of television pictures. The basic assumption of this algorithm is that abrupt changes in motion are located along boundaries of objects. These boundaries are spatial edges modelized by state automata including motion parameters. The pel-by-pel propagation of the estimator uses adaptive algorithms and instantaneous detection of motion changes. When a rupture in motion is detected, the estimator is reinitialized using local motion informations computed in a causal neighbourhood of the current pixel and specific motion estimation computed along the rupture edge.
